ATC reserves verdict on Kanju’s bail in Zain murder case

LAHORE - An anti-terrorism court has reserved its verdict on bail application of Mustafa Kanju, son of a former state minister Siddique Kanju in Zain murder case.
During the hearing on Wednesday, the counsel of Mustafa Kanju said two prosecution witnesses had turned hostile and failed to identify his client as the main accused of murder. The prosecution side, he said, could not establish the case against Kanju who was being victimised on political grounds. He prayed the court to release him on bail.
However, a prosecutor opposed the arguments of the petitioner’s counsel and presented the statements of complainant recorded by media. He also read the FIR before the judge and said the complainant, from the first day of the incident, was calling Mustafa Kanju the killer of Zain.
He said the complaint turned hostile after receiving gratification from the accused party. After hearing both the sides, the ATC reserved the decision on the petition. The court will announce decision on Sept 27.
Mustafa Kanju and his six accomplices have already been indicted on the charges of killing Zain, a 16 years old orphan boy, and injuring Hussain in Cavalary ground area of Lahore Cantonment.
