Flight steward sacked for smuggling cell phones

KARACHI - The PIA management has terminated the services of Flight Steward Khurrum Shahzad who is involved in smuggling of mobile phones from the United Kingdom. The PIA spokesman said Tuesday that Khurrum Shahzad was caught by British security at Heathrow airport when he was boarding the flight PK-786 for Islamabad.
PIA Chairman Nasser N S Jaffer said that the airline management perusing its zero tolerance policy towards corruption and earlier also some crew members was also terminated on smuggling and corruption.
SC EXPRESSES DISSATISFACTION OVER POLICE REPORT
Supreme Court (SC) Karachi registry has expressed dissatisfaction over progress report filed by police in the lawyers target killing case and sought complete details of reopened cases on next hearing.
A 2-member bench of SC comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Amir Hani Muslim took up for hearing Karachi lawyers target killing case at its Karachi registry Wednesday.
Police filed a report during the hearing of case. It was told to the court through this report that 42 lawyers fell victim to target killings from 2007 to date. Challans of 30 cases have been presented in respective courts. Ten cases have been declared A Class for want of evidence. These cases will be reinvestigated. The accused have been convicted in two cases. The court while expressing dissatisfaction over report remarked details of the cases which were reopened after having been declared A class and detailed report on progress made so far in these cases be presented to it on next hearing. The court adjourned the hearing of the case indefinitely.
Meanwhile, a 12-member delegation of Karachi Bar Association headed by President, Naeem Qureshi, called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Wednesday
Welcoming the delegation the Chief Justice of Pakistan said that Bench and Bar are integral part of same system therefore they should work hard for the betterment of the administration of justice.
He also underlined the need to bring improvements in the system of administration of justice so that speedy justice can be provided to litigants which can only be possible with the co-operation of Bars therefore, they should play positive role to discourage undue adjournments.
The members of the Bar thanked the Chief Justice of Pakistan for sparing time for them and congratulated him on his elevation as Chief Justice of Pakistan. They assured the
Chief Justice of Pakistan full support and co-operation for the administration of justice. They also discussed the problems faced by them. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali assured them to take steps to resolve their problems at the earliest.
