Islamabad - The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) will collaborate in field of education. Both sides will identify specific areas for further strengthening of higher education sector in the country. This was discussed in a meeting between Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed and Director UNESCO Vibeke Jensen when the latter visited the HEC office yesterday.

Ahmed shared different initiatives of HEC for developing institutional facilities, introduction of new disciplines in market-based technologies, development of human resource and linkages with different foreign universities. He elaborated how HEC has been endeavoring to build capacity of researchers and support universities for promotion and commercialisation of research. Jensen briefed the HEC chairman about the upcoming UNESCO initiative whereby rural areas of the country will be targeted for promotion of educational opportunities as well as spreading awareness for education of the female population.
