MANDI BAHAUDDIN- A female lawyer has alleged that Saddar police of Mandi Bahauddin had tortured her husband and implicated him in a false case, and appealed to the Punjab chief minister to order a judicial inquiry into the case.

Talking to the media, Rahila Khanam Advocate said the old police culture still prevailed and there was no let-up in registering false cases and using third degree techniques of torturing innocent citizens by police for ulterior motives. She said her husband Shehzad works as editor of a local daily. He published a news item regarding running of secret torture cells by police to terrorise suspects to get confession. The report, she said, annoyed Sadar Police which on Sept 10 raided the office located on Railway Road in broad day light and after abducting Shehzad took him to some unknown place. She further alleged the police tortured her husband with burning cigarettes, hot rods and gave him electric shocks as well.

When he fainted, she added, they registered a false case against him under 506 PPC/25D and got him admitted to DHQ Hospital when his condition turned precarious. She said that, thereafter, the police informed her about the FIR. She reached the hospital and on her application through Ilaqa Magistrate her husband was medically examined.

The medical officer advised her to take him to Lahore for treatment. As per medical legal report, he received 15 injuries, she said. She pleaded that her husband was innocent but the police implicated him in a false case and tortured him without any legal or moral justification. When asked, she said that SI Bashir Bosal and SHO Sadar with other police officials tortured her husband.
