LAHORE - The Lahore High Court yesterday issued notices to the federal and provincial governments to submit reply in a miscellaneous application challenging fee being charged by the private schools and seeking directions for equal education for all children up to the age of 16.

The LHC also sought details of audit and accounts of the schools by the next hearing fixed as Oct 2.

Judicial Activism Penal had filed the petition through its chairman Advocate Azhar Siddique and pointed out that the free and equal education for all children is the responsibility of the state under Article 25. The petitioner’s counsel said but the government was spending public money on other projects like metro bus and Orange Train.

The parents were forced to pay double fee for their children’ education, he said. The petitioner submitted that private schools were looting the general public but the government authorities were playing their role as silent spectators.

He prayed the court to order the governments to suspend the notification of those private schools charging double fee from the students. He also prayed to the court to order the government to provide free and equal education to all students.
