LAHORE - The Punjab golf team, which clinched the Inter Association team title after beating strong teams from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federal Capital, was honoured and presented with trophies by Punjab Golf Association (PGA) president Lt Gen Naweed Zaman here at the Garrison Golf Club Wednesday.

This victory by Punjab golf team was achieved through commendable performances by Ghazanfar Mehmood, M Rehman, Salman Jehangir, Khalid Mehmood and Zulfiqar Ali. This reflects well on the part of the PGA which has successfully managed to harness the golfing talent available and enabled cohesiveness and team spirit which resulted in Punjab team becoming the front runners in the country in the Inter Provincial Competitions.

Another significant achievement of the PGA is that three of their young ones have gained selection to represent Pakistan in the Nick Faldo World Junior Championship to be held in China in March 2016. Those, who been selected, are Nadeem Aslam in the U-21 age group, Ahmad Baig in U-18 and M Saqib in U-16 age category. These boys are undergoing training at the Punjab Golf Academy as per a comprehensive programme.

In this connection they are being provided all ancillary support. While they are honing their skills under the watchful eyes of Pakistani coaches, they will be sent abroad for coaching if considered necessary. Out of these three selected youngsters, Nadeem definitely looks the most promising prospect. He is tall and lanky and has a good physique. Noticeable in his game is rhythm, balance and timing and the hitting power is most impressive.

As for Ahmad Baig and M Saqib, they are rich in talent but still in their teens and need one-year time to show accomplishments in the golf competitions.
