BAHAWALPUR-Under the National Action Plan, the Punjab law forcers have arrested 105,000 suspected terrorists involved in various anti-state activities such as distributing hate literature, possessing illicit arms and delivering hate speeches.
These steps are aimed to fight terrorism which would lead to sustainable peace and tranquillity in the country, said Regional Director Information Rana Ajaz Mahmood.
“The Punjab government has evolved an effective strategy by establishing Anti-Terrorist Force, Counter-Terrorism Department and Forensic Lab along with new legislation to tighten the noose around the terrorists. It is practically manifested in reducing the quantum of terrorism in 2016,” Director Rana Ajaz Mahmood said. These bold measures against terrorism would lead to terrorism-free and peaceful society, he said.
Professor Dr Shahzad Ahmed Rana in his comments said that while implementing National Action Plan, the Punjab government has sharpened its vigil on the facilitators of terrorists and has lodged 93 cases, arrested 123 facilitators and 25 accused have been awarded punishment by the courts.
Dr Shahzad said that the Punjab government’s dedication and commitment in fully implementing the National Action Plan has yielded positive results which are highly appreciable. He paid rich tributes to the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Punjab for wiping-out the menace of terrorism which would hasten the march toward sustainable peace in Punjab.
For peaceful society, the Government has introduced smart card weapon licences by introducing computerisation of weapon licences which would serve to have a solid check on possessing illicit arms. He said that the measures would help establish a peaceful society.
In another programme, parliamentarian Syed Tabish Alwari has said that peace is the key to prosperous, progressive and modern polity. Punjab government’s effective anti-terrorism measures have reduced the quantum of terrorist acts and heinous crimes which would greatly contribute in establishing peace in the society.
The topic of the seminar was “Punjab Government’s Achievements against Terrorist Forces through its Implementation of National Action Programme”. Alwari said that peace would prevail in the wake of Punjab government’s effort.
Director Information Rana Ajaz Mahmood while speaking on the occasion said Islam means peace which is gloriously manifested both in the principles and civilisation of Islam.
Mr Rana urged the opinion makers to promote the culture of dialogues which is vital to initiative knowledge-based debate. It would promote pluralistic, progressive and enlightened mind set. He hoped that the rapidly reducing the quantum of act of terrorism and heinous crime is a positive sign for establishing tolerant and peaceful society.
Other speakers said that that tolerance is vital to defeat the forces of extremism. They vowed that media would continue to support the forces of enlightenment and progressivism. They said that justice is the key to peace therefore vigorous efforts be made to have effective and vibrant system to ensure justice in the society. They also highlighted various measures taken by the Punjab government under the National Action Plan.
