BAJAUR AGENCY/Khyber Agency -  Security forces yesterday successfully repulsed an attack on security check post by unknown militants in Bajaur Agency’s border area.

Official sources in Khar said a group of unidentified militants attacked a security forces check post near Nawa Pass, the border area of the agency, from across the Pak-Afghan border. According to the officials, security forces immediately took positions and repulsed the attack effectively. No casualties were reported in the attack.

Strict security measures were witnessed at mosques across the agency during Juma prayers. An official of the local administration told The Nation that Juma prayers concluded in a peaceful environment across the agency after foolproof security measures taken in the region.

He said a number of Levies personnel along with peace volunteers were deployed outside the main gates of mosques in several areas of the agency during the Juma prayers.

The official said the tribal elders and members of the peace committee were vigilant to thwart any untoward incident in their areas. He added the measures were taken on the directives of senior administration officials to foil any unpleasant incident in the mosques during the Juma prayers. According to him, such measures at mosques in the agency would continue for an indefinite period to keep peace in the region.

TRIBESMAN INJURED IN IED BLAST: A local tribesman sustained injuries when his car hit a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED), planted by unknown persons here in Ashraf Khel area of tehsil Landi Kotal yesterday.

A political administration official, while confirming the incident, said Wali Muhammad was on his way to bazaar in his car when it hit a bomb planted alongside the road and concealed in mud.  The intensity of the explosive could be imagined from the fact that the car split into two parts, locals said.

Consequently, Wali Muhammad got seriously injured and was shifted to a Landi Kotal hospital from where from he was referred to a Peshawar in view of his precarious condition.

Soon after the incident, the administration and forces officials rushed to the scene, cordoned off the entire area and collected evidence from the site. The administration arrested four suspected persons for investigation.




INP adds: Unidentified miscreants set on fire three vehicles loaded with fruits here on Friday.

Levies sources said that unknown criminals intercepted Dera Ismail Khan bound three fruits laden vehicles in Kara Kanra area of Tank district.

The culprits after pulling down the drivers and assistants set on fire the vehicles and fled from the scene. The vehicles were gutted completely before the fire could be extinguished.

The security personnel cordoned off the area after the incident and launched search operation for the culprits but no arrest was made.

Political administration officials also reached the scene of the crime and started the investigation into the incident.
