/agencies-MAILSI/SAHIWAL-Five dacoits and a shopkeeper were killed in two incidents occurred in Sahiwal and Mailsi here on Friday.

In Mailsi, a shopkeeper was gunned down over putting up resistance while two dacoits were also killed in the retaliatory firing and another was arrested in injured condition.

According to police, three dacoit barged into a grocery shop (Irum Karyana Store) situated in Dorhata area on Multan Road late the other night. They held the shopkeeper 17-year-old Muhammad Imran at gunpoint, asking him to hand over whatever he had. He, however, put up resistance at which the dacoit fired gunshots on him. In the meanwhile, Muhammad Gulzar, father of Imran, an ex-serviceman, who was having dinner on the roof of the shop heard to the gunshots. He rushed to the scene with his pistol and started straight firing on the dacoits. As a result, two of the dacoits got gunshots and fell down while another runaway, although he also received two bullets. On information, Mailsi DSP Ghulam Shabbir Warriach with a contingent of the City Police reached the spot and sent some policemen after the runaway dacoit who caught him in fields in injured condition. The three injured dacoits and the shopkeeper were rushed to hospital but two of the dacoits along with shopkeeper Imran succumbed to their wounds on the way. The third dacoit was referred to Multan Nishtar Hospital in critical condition.

According t the police, identities of the dead and injured dacoit could not be ascertained yet.

In Sahiwal, police were tipped off that a gang of four robbers were looting members of a wedding procession near Qadirabad Toll Plaza in Sahiwal. At which a police team rushed to the spot but as soon as the robbers took sight of the police, they resorted to indiscriminate firing and attempted to escape. The police retaliated with fire and a brief shootout ensued. Resultantly, three robbers were killed instantly and another managed to flee the scene. The police also recovered arms and looted valuables from their possession. However, identity of the killed robbers could not be ascertained till foiling of this report.
