QUETTA - The Balochistan National Party-Mengal leaders have rejected the house-listing and census saying they will not accept such a survey in the province until Afghan refugees are repatriated to Afghanistan. Addressing a protest rally outside the Quetta Press Club on Sunday, the BNP leaders including its Central Secretary Information Agha Hassan Baloch, Saeed Ahmed Kurd and Imran said four million Afghans had taken refuge in Balochistan and after their induction in the ongoing census, the Balochs would 'become a minority in their own motherland. The Balochs will never accept any census in the presence of Afghan refugees, they averred. Blaming Afghan refugees for introducing the culture of Kalashnikovs and narcotics in the province, the speakers said: The lawlessness has escalated owing to their (Afghan refugees) presence in the province. Free movement of the Afghan refugees across the province has been creating immense difficulties for the local people, they asserted, adding they had also succeeded in obtaining Pakistani national identity cards and purchased property everywhere in the province including the Baloch-populated districts. Criticising the previous and the present governments, they said thousands of people had been displaced from Dera Bugti and Kohlu districts due to military operation launched by Pervez Musharraf while a large number of people had been displaced from Naseerabad and Jaffarabad owing to devastating floods. About 1 million people have displaced in Balochistan and in such a situation it is not viable to carryout census, they added. They also appealed the United Nations to take notice of injustices and excesses against the Balochs and ensure transparent census in the province.
