OKARA/HAVELI LAKHA - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said the case of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has been referred to the Supreme Court in view to rectify the historic mistake. Gilani said Bhutto Shaheed was an asset to the nation and hoped that the judiciary would give an accurate judgment in the case. Prime Minister was addressing the opening ceremony of Okra Cadet College on Sunday. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, MNA Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali and former state minister for information and broadcasting Syed Samsam Ali Bukhari also participated in the ceremony. Prime Minister Gilani said the PPP government would implement Mohtarma Benazir Bhuttos vision and promote education in the country. He said the PPP was making efforts for the empowerment of women in the country and to include them in the mainstream. He added that women would be protected under the Benazir Income Support Programme through health insurance, assistance for child education and other benefits. Gilani said the PPP had given a reasonable status to the poor and downtrodden segments of the society, adding that it is the duty of the government to meet the demands of the masses. Referring to the issue of military farms and tenants, Gilani announced to form a committee comprising the officials of Defence Ministry and other stakeholders which would work for giving proprietary rights of land to the tenants. He said the problems which the farmers are facing in acquisition of gunny bags and shifting of wheat would be removed, adding that the agriculture department has been given clear orders in this regard. He asserted that the PPP workers are an asset to the party and they would never be left alone. He asked the partys office bearers and ministers to remain in touch with the masses and come up with solutions of their problems. Prime Minister also ordered the dualisation of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Avenue passing through Okara and announced construction of a hostel for the college cadets. Addressing a public rally in Depalpur, Prime Minister Gilani said the PPP is the symbol of federation and unity and it would never compromise on the national interests. Gilani said loadshedding has become a nuisance and it is hurting economy. He asked the Power Minster to find a solution to the energy crisis Loadshedding is halting the wheel of economy as several industries are being shut because of it, he added. We have to stand united against anti-state elements and it will be our greatest success that the nation should unite against terrorism and extremism, he said. He said that no country could win war without the support of people. The government would not take rest until and unless the terrorism is eliminated, he added. Prime Minister said that Pakistan Army has saved the future of people of the country by sacrificing their lives, for which they deserve homage. The PPP-led government was on path of political reconciliation, he said and added that it is the responsibility of the govt to resolve countrys problems and for this purpose all available resources are being utilized. He said the party always worked for the good of masses and initiation of Benazir Income Support Programme is a step in this direction. He announced Rs90 million for the development projects in Haveli Lakha, Mandi Ahmadabad and Basirpur. He also announced Rs2 million grant for Depalpur Press Club and Depalpur Bar. Gilani vowed that the government would take all measures to better the lot of farmer community. The Prime Minister felicitated the Christians community on Easter and reiterated the PPPs commitment to protect rights of minorities.
