LAHORE Federal Minister for Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday visited the residence of late poet Habib Jalib and presented a cheque of Rs 500,000 to his widow. While talking to media, the minister said this financial help was being given to the widow of the late poet by Federal Information Ministry on the direction of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani. She said that she would request the President and the Prime Minister for monthly financial package for the family. Dr Firdos said that she and President Asif Ali Zardaris sister Faryal Talpur attended the valima party of Chaudhry Salik Hussain, the son of PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain yesterday which was only a good will gesture and they were did not go their with any package. To a question, Dr Firdos said that there was no portfolio of deputy Prime Minister in the constitution, adding that no amendment in constitution could be made in this regard. Responding to another question, she said that it was not suitable to talk about the rights of Karachties while sitting in Lahore. She said that when people of Karachi would ask for change than PPP would cater their needs according to the constitution. To another query, she said that load shedding was getting intense because the demand was increasing. Replying to a question about the negotiations going on with the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) to attract it to joining the federal government, she said so far no formula or ministries had been offered to the opposition party. By joining hands, she said, both the sides would be in a better position to find a solution to the challenges facing the country and provide relief to the masses. About the future of employees of the ATV which is facing closure, the minister said the government would own these employees although they lacked any legal cover. Paying tribute to late poet, she said I am here to pay tribute to Habib Jalib for his ervices in literature and to express solidarity with his family. Arshad bhatti 4/24/2011
