The 47th National Men and Women Gymnastic Championships will begin here at the Government College University Hall today (Thursday). The teams from four provinces, Pakistan Army, Police, Railways, Higher Education Commission, Wapda and Islamabad will feature in the two-day activity.

“In men part of the event, each team will be allowed to field four players, two technical officials and one national level referee,” said Pakistan Gymnastic Federation (PGF) spokesman here on Wednesday.

He said each girls’ team would be comprising four players. “The PGF in collaboration with Punjab Gymnastic Association (PGA) is holding the event and various committees have been formed for its smooth conduct while GCU Director Sports Khadim Ali Khan is the organising secretary of the meet.”  “We know the sour reality that gymnastic is not a popular sport in our country but we are making sincere efforts to help develop this game and it is the results of our years long devoted efforts that girls are coming forward to compete in it and that is why we are organising girls championship in order to provide them ample opportunity to display their talent,” he added.

“On the sidelines of the event, we will be organising judges’ refresher course to upgrade the existing knowledge of our technical officials,” he concluded.
