Students in Taxila and Wah Cantonment attend classes sans textbooks because the Punjab Education Department has not provided free books to them.

Teachers, students and their parents have voiced against non-distribution of free books to the students.  Tahir Iqbal, a student of class VIII, said a few classmates got the textbooks. He said students faced great difficulties because of the shortage of textbooks. Ahsan Tahir, another student, said teachers have no option but to share the books with students.  Talking to this scribe, a teacher of local primary school said the Punjab Textbook Board (PTB) had made many changes in the books this year and the students would not even study from the old books.
