Of late, things have not been going smoothly between the military and the political elected government. There are three major issues which have created resentment between the two sides. Those three issues are the missing person case, the Musharraf trial and the talks with the Taliban. Both the leadership’ needs to build convergences and curtail divergences. The civilian leadership and the military leadership need to be on the same page on these issues. In the past, we witnessed that things ended in a mess when there was a rift between these two institutions. Things should be resolved with rationality.

These issues should be solved with planning and keeping the bigger picture in mind. The safety of the nation and its people should be the first priority. Both the civilian and the military leaderships should work in their domains and within the parameters of the constitution. Both sides should sit together and address these concerns through table talks.
