State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali said that on the directives of the prime minister of Pakistan, open courts are being held to hear public complaints against Mepco officials.

He was talking to the media during an open court held at Dring Stadium Bahawalpur. “The officials responsible for teasing the public will not be forgiven. I came to Bahawalpur for resolving the public problems and will not go back as long as the problems of the people are resolved,” he said. Upon the public complaints, 5 meter readers, one SDO and one inspector were suspended.

The minister said that with special efforts of Prime Minister of Pakistan and CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Quaid-i-Azam Solar Power Project was established in Bahawalpur which will start producing 100-MW electricity this month while its capacity will be increased by 900 MW.

The Solar Park will help counter the shortfall of electricity in Pakistan and write new chapter of development of Bahawalpur. He said that after the installation of transformers, more than 1.5 million citizens of Bahawalpur district will be benefited.

He heard the complaints of electricity consumers and issued orders to Wapda officials to resolve their problems in 24 hours. He also suspended SDO Khanqa Sharif Habibullah Khan, Inspector Musarat, meter reader Sheikh Ajmal, Sardar Shah, Naeem Khalid and Sattar Shah for receiving bribes and overbilling.

He reprimanded Mepco Chief Executive Muzaffar Ali Abbasi, the SE and XEN Bahawalpur as most of the complaints received in the open court were related to upgradation of transformers. He said that officials do not work due to which the government was disgraced by the people. He directed the Mepco officials to conduct open courts on monthly basis and resolve the public issues, warning them to mend their ways or face the music. He promised to give jobs to the children of government officials who die during service.
