Islamabad - Local police along with officials of civic bodies Friday launched a grand operation against the encroachments in various parts of the city to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

During the operation, supervised by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Shoaib Khurram Janbaz along with high-ups of Tehsil Municipal Administration and Chaklala Cantonment Board, several encroachments causing hurdle in traffic movement and creating problems for commuters and pedestrians were removed.

Talking to media persons, CTO Shoaib Khurram Janbaz said that the shopkeepers and traders have expanded their stalls and other stuff on the footpaths and roads, due to which the shoppers and vehicle owners were facing immense troubles. “The encroachments often led to severe scuffles between the public and traders in the city,” he said and added that CTP along with TMA and CCB launched this operation on public complaints. After this operation, the traffic flow is better, he said.

On the other hand, CTP announced a comprehensive traffic plan on the occasion of elections of cantonment boards scheduled to be held today (Saturday). According to traffic plan, many traffic police officers and wardens would perform duties to ease traffic rush on polling day.
