KARACHI - ­Murder convict Shafqat Hussain is scheduled to be handed on May 6 after an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi issued his black warrants Friday.
Hussain was convicted of killing a seven-year-old boy after kidnapping in Karachi in 2004. The condemned prisoner’s family and human right activists claimed the man was only 15 years old at the time of the murder.
The age controversy prompted the government to form a committee to reinvestigate the case and look into the age claims. Besides, the ATC stayed his execution for a month after emergence of Hussain’s birth certificate.
Today, the ATC finally issued death warrants for his execution on May 6 in Karachi.
MACHH JAIL OFFICIALS SEEK NEW DATE FOR MIRZA’S EXECUTION: Machh Jail officials will write a letter to the Sindh government seeking a new date for the execution of death-row inmate Saulat Mirza.
The date of Saulat Mirza’s execution was extended by President Mamnoon Hussain till April 30. Mirza will be executed after a new date is given by the Anti-Terrorism Court.
Last week a joint investigation team formed to probe revelations unearthed by Saulat Mirza interrogated him at the Machh Jail.
Mirza a former worker of Muttahida Quami Movement hours before his scheduled execution on March 19, Mirza hurled serious allegations at his former party and its chief Altaf Hussain in a confession video. He said MQM’s senior leader Babar Ghauri passed on to him Altaf Hussain’s orders of assassinating KESC chief Shahid Hamid. Mirza also claimed that the party uses Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad’s influence to protect MQM’s criminal workers.
SINDH POLICE FAIL TO REACH DUBAI FOR BALOCH’S
REPATRIATION
Sindh police team was not able to reach Dubai on the prescribed time for the extradition of Lyari gang-war key figure Uzair Baloch.
The police team had to reach Dubai in the second week of April but it failed to do so diminishing the chances of Baloch’s return.
Officials of the Sindh government have so far been unable to provide the necessary documents and evidence required to repatriate the notorious gang-leader jailed in Dubai.
Sindh government has been trying to get custody of Uzair from authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but legal difficulties have restrained Pakistani police officials from getting his charge.
Uzair Baloch, the chief of the banned Peoples Aman Committee s (PAC) who fled Pakistan in 2013 after the launch of a Rangers operation in Karachi.
Uzair, 37, an alleged leader of one of the gangs operating in crime-infested Lyari, has been blamed for running a network involved in criminal activities including killings, extortion and drugs business. The Interpol arrested Uzair from Muscat in December and brought him to Dubai, where he is since being kept in detention.
Uzair Baloch has also filed a bail application in Dubai court and is likely to be freed from custody.\
