The newly created Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation has inherited a host of civic problems previously handled by Capital Development Authority. Obviously, these cannot be resolved all at once. However, if IMC is able to set priorities to tackle the issues in a phased manner it may hopefully succeed in service delivery according to the set priorities.

While setting priorities the IMC is expected to choose those areas first where the judiciary has some stake in the context of civic problems faced by the public at large e.g non-conforming use of residential houses; putting barriers on roads/ streets in the name of security and mushroom growth of slums etc. IMC needs to go by the courts’ orders/ directions and take the needed steps in such cases. A fool-proof/ transparent policy may also be laid down to deal with such matters in future.
