LAHORE - Renowned actor, writer and director Syed Afzaal Ahmad's stage drama 'Janam Janam Ki Meli Chadar' is again making history. This thought-provoking and message-oriented stage drama is being re-staged at a local theatre after a gap of three and a half year. This time Afzaal Ahmad, Suhail Ahmad, Hassan Murad, Mohsan Gilani, Amanat Chan Akram Udas, Ajab Gul, Sardar Kamal, Durdana Rehman, Zara Akbar, Asha Chaudhry, Laila Siddiqui, Waqas Ali and Chakori Begum are performing together in this record maker drama. This was told by well-known stage drama producer Ch Zulfikar Ahmad while talking to The Nation on Sunday. He said it was a record that 1,750 shows of this drama had been shown since it was staged earlier. Now it will also be run for a long spell, he added. "Afzaal Ahmad had served show biz world for many years and we have tried to utilise the capabilities of this legend and genius man again for the stage", Zulfikar said. He said it was the time to present good family stage plays for entertainment purposes otherwise people would never come to theatre halls. He further said it was also the duty of other producers to stage good plays particularly for families. He said he was not happy over the dramas being staged these days in other halls because they were full of vulgarity causing families to stay away the halls. Zulfikar said we have spent huge money on making sets, creating best light effects and providing a befitting atmosphere required for staging 'Janam Janam Ki Meli Chadar'. All the artistes are delivering best performances of their careers, Zulfikar maintained and claimed this drama has become the focus of attention for families. He said that his mission was to provide only family entertainment stage plays without any vulgarity. "It is the quality of my dramas that these are all family plays. You will never find any dual meaning jokes and substandard comedy in my plays", Zulfikar said, adding there is only situational comedy that runs only with story. Zulfikar said whenever during his foreign tours, he considers himself the ambassador of Pakistan because the country is his first and foremost recognition in the world. He said he always tried to give a good message to the audience through dramas. "My earlier plays like 'Shartiya Mithhay', 'Andaz Apna Apna', 'Roti Khol Do', 'Ik Tera Sanam Khana', Kali Chaadar', 'Taj Mahal' and 'Paon Ka Zever' were all family plays", Zulfikar concluded.
