LAHORE - Lahore Division Commissioner Jawad Rafique Malik has ordered officers of all the concerned departments to launch public awareness campaign for the eradication of dengue.

He was presiding over a meeting held to review the anti-dengue arrangements at commissioner office, on Friday. He directed all the concerned departments to keep a close liaison with each other and the public representatives as well so that effective control might be obtained on the dengue menace.

The commissioner said the people representatives, NGOs and district government teams would play an effective role in the dengue eradication campaign. He disclosed that an all out campaign regarding the dengue eradication being launched in the district government and all the offices of the towns attached to the same from Sunday August 26.

He pointed out that all the concerned departments would rehearse respective programs regarding the public awareness campaign and larvaeciding and following that the dengue eradication activities would formally commence. He said that special team regarding dengue eradication would be set up in the towns which would comprise the people representatives, political workers apart from the district and town administration officers.

Those teams would also furnished pictorial proves regarding their anti-dengue activities to the commissioner’s officer. He said that cleansing, screening and larvaeciding would take place in all the offices apart from the commissioner office, DCO Officer and CDGL.

He directed the town administration officers to induct trained persons in the teams set for the purpose. The commissioner also directed that the dengue brigades might as well be made vibrant in all out way.  He asked the town administration officers to convene the Town Emergency Response Committee meetings at least twice a week and the proceeding of the meeting be given full press coverage.

The meeting was also attended by MNAs Pervaiz Malik, Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and MPAa Kh Imran Nazir, Ch Shahbaz, Haji Allah Rakha, Rana Tajamal Hussain, DCO, ADC(G), administrators, TMO and Chairmen of the town emergency committee beside the officers of other departments.

TEAMS VISIT GRAVEYARDS: Officials of different departments, connected with Anti-dengue campaign paid visits to different areas of City to check cleanliness arrangements and the process of larva elimination on Friday.

The officers of CDGL visited 40 graveyards, 51 Junkyards, 63 under construction buildings, 93 tyres shops and other places and monitored anti-dengue activities going on in all towns of the city.

In this regard, the DCO Noor-ul-Amin Mengal said that dengue larva was found at four places including Khokhar pind UC13, Railway hospital, Fateh garh UC 44. However, dengue larva had been eliminated from above said places. Mr. Mengal told that health department and Entomologists were conducting indoor and outdoor surveillance in their assigned towns.

Meanwhile, on the directions of District Coordination Officer, the officers of District Administration had conducted surprise raids to various shops to check the price of essential items. The District Administration had challaned 14 shops and imposed Rs. 11,700 fine to their owners due to over charging.

Moreover, DCO Noorul Amin Mengal revealed that the officers of CDGL had conducted 13,192 raids to various shops in the holy month of Ramazan and an amount of Rs 2,446,600 was received from shopkeepers as fine while 172 FIRs were get registered in different police stations and 183 shopkeepers were arrested due to overcharging and hoarding.

WASA DIRECTED TO DRAIN OUT RAINWATER: District Coordination Officer Noor-ul-Amin Mengal has directed WASA officials and TMOs of all towns of city to drain out rain water properly and not to allow rain water to remain static and stagnant on main city roads.

The DCO directed the officials concerned to make special arrangements in low lying areas so that citizens would not face difficulties in this regard. He also directed all TMOs to keep their employees alert.
