LAHORE – The recruitment of constables in the police department has been cancelled once again until further orders, a senior police officer told TheNation on Friday.

Sources in the Central Police Office (CPO) further revealed that the police department had stopped the recruitment process on the orders of the provincial government.

It is not clear why the recruitment process in the police department was deferred for the second time on Friday. Officials said the recruitment would be made once the government would approve the policy in this regard.

It is important to mention here that tens of thousands of candidates have applied for the post of constable in the police department. A couple of weeks ago, the authorities began recruitment all over Punjab, prompting the educated youth to throng to the police headquarters for submission of applications on the prescribed forms.

COMMITTEE FORMED: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman has constituted a high-level committee to finalise recommendations for the departmental promotion of traffic wardens serving in the province.

According to officials, the IGP issued these orders while chairing a meeting at the Central Police office (CPO) on Friday. The meeting was held to discuss the issue of promotion of traffic wardens while Punjab Additional-IG Malik Khuda Bukhsh Awan, Additional-IG Traffic Kalb-e-Abbas, Additional-IG (PHP) Khan Baig and Additional-IG Mubarak Ali Athar were also attended the meeting. 

On this occasion, the IGP constituted a high-level committee headed by Additional-IG Malik Khuda Bukhsh Awan to consider the departmental promotion of traffic wardens. The committee will submit its report to the IGP within 15 days.

DIG POSTED: The Punjab government on Friday ordered the posting of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Rao Muhammad Sardar as Bahawalpur regional police officer (RPO).

Official sources said the notification to this effect had been issued. Sources further revealed that the government in principle has also agreed to appoint DIG Khalid Dad Lak as Multan RPO. The notification in this regard will be issued within next couple of days.

Meanwhile, Punjab IGP Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman has ordered transfers and postings of senior police officers. According to a notification, SSP (Investigation Branch) Akhtar Omar Laleka has been transferred and posted as Jhang district police officer (DPO); while Jhang DPO Abdul Karim has ben transferred and directed to report to the CPO.
