LAHORE - Jamaat-e- Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan has said the flooding in Pakistan is being caused by India’s diversion of its water to Pakistan.

“Flooding in Pakistan is not caused by rains. India has been diverting its water to Pakistan, resulting in flooding,” he said while addressing the Friday congregation at the Mansoora mosque. “India has been controlling the Pakistan’s water through the Occupied Kashmir. Delhi is in a position to either turn our lands a desert by stopping water or cause floods by releasing rainwater into Pakistan,” he added. He urged the government to register strong protest against India with the world and sever trade as well as other ties with Delhi. The JI chief praised Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for taking suo moto of the Balochistan situation. However, he rapped the government over the issue.  He urged the PML-N and the JUI-F to take solid steps to heal Baloch wounds.

He said the country will have to adopt self-reliance to get rid of the interest based economy and the hold of the IMF.

Speaking at the funeral in absentia for a Kashmiri couple, Engineer Ahsan Aziz and his wife, who died in a drone attack, the JI chief called upon the government to wake up to the issue.
