Labaik launched to teach negligent cops a lesson

BAHAWALPUR - The district police of Bahawalpur have launched Labaik, a new system, which enables complainants to directly contact the DPO if the police turn a deaf ear to their complaints.
"If the police were not paying heed to the complaint of anyone, he could contact me directly on phone. Just call me once and I will listen to you and try to redress your grievances," said DPO Sohail Habib Tajik.
He said that the police officers should consider themselves as public servants instead of rulers. He directed that due and proper respect should be given to the public. He said that every cop should greet complainants with Assalamu Alaikum before starting talks.
"Today is the era of science and technology so we should change the traditional police culture and adopt new and modern system. The police officers should become like eagle instead of sparrows. Only brave officers will remain part of my team. We had only 1,700 policemen for the population of 4 million. Bahawalpur is the largest district of the Punjab having the area of 28,000 sq km. We have only 120 investigation officers, less than the number of registered cases. In this way, IOs could not perform their duty properly but we are trying to give better results with these officers," he said.
The officer said that he would decentralise power of SHO to ASI and now an ASI would be fully responsible for his beat and more steps for getting better result were also being taken. He stated, "I introduced the reward system in this district to improve performance of the police. Cash awards and promotions will be awarded to the well performers whereas actions will be taken against those who do not work properly."
He also gave three inspectors, three sub inspectors, three ASIs and three constables with cash awards and shields on their good performance. He said, "We are going to activate Masalihati committee of union councils to deal with all social crimes so as to ease burden on the police. He said that the media can play a vital role to control crime rate because they are eyes of the society so they should come forward and play their role.
Highlighting the performance of Bahawalpur police, he said that Rs140 million cash, 2 Kalashnikov, 451 pistols, 88 carbines, 75 guns, thousand of liters of liquor, 4 Kg charas, 48 motorcycles and 35 mobile phones had been recovered during last seven months.
