PESHAWAR - The Peshawar district administration on Friday announced to hold a series of three-day polio eradication campaign in the 48 high-risk declared union councils from August 28.A vaccination drive in rest of the 44 union councils in Peshawar would also be carried out, Javid Marwat, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Peshawar, said this while addressing a news conference here at the Press Club. He said that in the month of Ramadan a polio case was surfaced in district Peshawar, due to which it was decided to carryout a series of three rounds of polio vaccination campaign, on emergency basis from August 28 to 30, second round from September 4 to 6 and the last round from 6 to 10 of the same month. Flanked by EDO Health Dr Abdul Rasheed, Javid Marwat informed that the 48 high-risk declared union councils include Shaheen Muslim Town-I, II, Akhunabad, Sikandar Town, Gulbahar, Hazarkhwani-I, II, Urmar Bala, Miana, and Payan, Musazai, Mera Kachorai, Bazidkhel, Surezai Bala and Payan, Khalisa-I, II, Mahal Teraie One, Yakatoot-I, II, and Palosai etc, in which about four lac 56000 and 748 children below the age of five years through 1201 teams would be vaccinated. The teams would be consisted as 991 mobile teams, 101 transit and 109 fixed teams. He added that about 2000 parents were refused to vaccinate their children, in which 800 parents were convinced and the rest would also be convinced. The DCO also urged the Ulema, parents and people in every walk of life to play their due role in eradication of polio menace from the country.
