LAKKI MARWAT – Former MPA Zafrullah Khan Marwat has called for initiating a drastic action against those parents who are reluctant to immunize their children against polio.Speaking at the inaugural function of the polio eradication campaign in rural health centre Ahmadkhel on Friday, he regretted and expressed concern over surfacing of confirm polio case in Dhoda village of Ahmadkhel union council last month and said that refusal by parents was unacceptable. He said that to administer kids below the age of five years with oral polio vaccine was inevitable to keep them safe from the attack of crippling disease.The function was attended among others by DCO Nisar Ahmad, DDO health Dr Abdul Rehman, PPHI District Support Manager Ihsanullah Khan, WHO Surveillance Officer Dr Adnan Akbar Khan, Shah Hasankhel Peace Committee’s President Mushtaq Khan and notables of union council Ahmadkhel.On the occasion, health officials said that after detection of a polio case in Dhoda village the health department has planned to launch two special rounds of polio eradication campaign in the district on August 27 and September 3. They said that all arrangements have been finalized to make the drive a success.“The surfacing of polio case has brought the children under the age of five prone to the virus in the district,” they maintained, saying that the administration of short interval additional dose will help to protect them from the fatal epidemic.The former lawmaker along with DCO Nisar Ahmad and health officials administered several children with anti-polio drops. He said that the government should take stringent measures to ensure immunisation of each child against polio.He also offered his services to accompany the polio teams during their door-to-door activities, assuring that he will personally approach parents and will convince them for vaccination of their children.“The international community can impose restrictions on us besides the entire nation will face debasement if we failed to wipe out the disease from our country up to the end of this year”, he told.
