KARACHI - At least two labourers busy working in a well in Korangi area, died to suffocation Sunday.
Mashood and Omar went down in the well for some repair work but unfortunately died of suffocation due to some poisonous gas.
Following the incident, rescuers from different welfare associations and fire-brigade department were called to retrieve their bodies. The rescuers faced massive difficulties due to the crowd gathered on the spot. However, extra contingent of law enforcers including police and Rangers were called to disperse the people. After the hectic efforts of hours, rescuers were able to recover the bodies and shifted them to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsies.
SHO Ahmed Butt said that the well’s length was around 120 feet depth, adding that as soon as they went down to the well for the final touching, they died of suffocation apparently due to some poisonous gases; however, the police were waiting for their post-mortem report.
Meanwhile, Rangers gunned down an alleged gangster in a shootout with Rangers in Lyari, while two outlaws were arrested during separate raids here.According to the Rangers spokesperson, they conducted a raid at gangsters’ hideout. On seeing the Rangers team approaching, the gangster opened fire. The personnel retaliated to the fire and managed to kill notorious gangster namely Ali Jan Mehmood who was associated with the Abdul Jabbar Jhengu group of Lyari gangsters.
The spokesperson further said that Mehmood was involved in at least two murder cases besides numerous extortion and kidnapping for ransom cases. Heavy weapons were also recovered from his possession.
Separately, two suspects were arrested during a targeted raid conducted by Rangers in Khadda Market area, Lyari. The Ranger’s spokesperson said that during the raid, two criminals were arrested after an exchange of fire, adding that weapons were also recovered from them.
