The sale of substandard edibles is on the rise in the city and its surrounding villages, causing spread of stomach and dental diseases especially among the children. During a survey conducted by The Nation, it has been observed that the sale of substandard nimko, chips, cakes, candies, biscuits and other edibles continued unchecked. Most of the hotels in different areas of Thal are serving substandard and unhygienic food to their consumers, and charged whimsical prices. The substandard and unhygienic food is causing certain digestion problems among people who had to feed themselves at these low priced places.

The practice goes unchecked despite certain steps taken by the district administration to check food quality and over-charging in the Thal.
