LAHORE - Election tribunal-member Kazim Ali Malik Monday explained reasons behind the delay in announcement of reserved verdict on the petition of PTI Chairman Imran Khan against the victory of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq from NA-122, Lahore.

Kazim Ali Malik said analysts criticising the delay were not conversant to the court’s procedure. He said no specific time was told to the counsels of the parties for the announcement of the decision on Saturday (Aug 22), said a statement issued by a deputy registrar on Monday.

The judge stated that both the parties had already been told that there would be a detailed verdict that required a reasonable time to be written. He further said the decision could have been leaked out if he had drafted it before the day of announcement.

He said dictation of order to court’s staff in closed door had been a normal practice for trial judges. One could check this practice by visiting any sessions court, he added.
