‘Drug abuse eroding social fabric’

Islamabad - On the directions of Minister of State, Capital Administration & Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, a seminar titled “Social Impacts of Drug Addiction and its Prevention: Problems & Prospects” was organised by National Council of Social Welfare yesterday.

Dr Nadeem Shafiq Malik, Chairman National Council of Social Welfare, chaired the seminar while Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Special Secretary Interior, was the chief guest. Representatives of civil social, NGOs, students, journalists and intellectuals, officials of different departments of CA&DD, and other stakeholders attended the seminar.

Dr Nadeem Shafiq Malik in his presidential address deliberated that the increasing menace of drug addiction in the society has inflicted negative social influences.

“Drug abuse is eroding the foundations of our society as similar to cancer. In the present time, discussion on this topic has become vital and indispensable,” he said. All the segments of the society have to own responsibility to carryout practical measures for eradication of drug addiction and abuse. “We need to save our youth from this snag,” he urged.

Dr Nadeem Shafiq further emphasised, “Youth is our most precious asset and to utilise their energies in positive and health activates is imperative for the swift social development of the country.”

National Council of Social Welfare has established a research cell for developing strategy to combat social problems and issues. A number of youth interns from National internship Programme are working in this cell. Youth Internship Programme is with the prime objective to persuade our youth towards positive and productive activities to that they can play their role in national development.
