ISLAMABAD -Minister for Housing and Works Rehmatullah Kakar Wednesday told the National Assembly that PHA is launching Housing Scheme in Islamabad for grade BPS-17-22 officers under Prime Minster's Housing Programme. In written reply to a question, the Minster said that PHA is launching Housing Scheme at Kuri Road, Zone-IV Islamabad for officers of Federally Constituted Occupational Groups, ISI, IB, Supreme Court and Parliament House (BPS 17-22) in Phase-1. He said that no plot is being offered but PHA is going to construct housing units for the officers. The price of dwelling units would be determined after detailed feasibility and planning. In replying to supplementary question of MNA Yasmeen Rehman, the Minster said that PHA has no housing scheme for grade 1-16 government servants. There is no proposal regarding allotment of plot for low grad government servants, he said. "As per Steering Committee approved criteria, all officers from grade 17-22 for eligible for allotment of housing units who have already two plots/house/apartments allotted by Federal or provincial government," he said. The Minister said that presently, PHA is demanding advance payment of Rs. 500,000 to payoff the cost of land to Capital Development Authority (CDA) from those eligible officers of BPS-22 as per criteria approved by Steering Committee on housing in its meeting held on September 15, 2008 under the Chairmanship of Prime Minster Yousuf Raza Gilani. Minister for Industries and Production Mian Manzoor Ahmed Watto also informed the Lower House that a committee for revival of 859 sick industrial units working under Finances Ministry. In written reply to a question, the Minister said that the Committee has given recommendations for revival of 199 sick units employing approximately 52,000 workers. During question hours session, he said that that the Committee for Revival of Sick Industrial Units was constituted in 2000, which considered 391 cases of sick industrial units and presented its recommendations for revival and reconstruction of 199 units. He said that the problems of industrial units were duly considered by the concerned government agencies and necessary relief was being provided to them. In a written reply to a question from Yasmeen Rehman, the minister said that Utility Stores Corporation monitoring team carries out periodical and random checks and inspections are done in which weight of items sold at USC is checked. Replying to a supplementary question the Parliamentary Secretary asked all MNAs to visit USC outlets to monitor the quality and quantity of the items being sold there. He said that the government plans to open 290 new Utility Stores in near future. Above Grade-20 officers directed to attend meetings Online: Taking stern notice of non-participation of high government officials in the functions of President and the Prime Minister, the federal government has directed all officers of above Grade-20 to ensure their participation in officials functions of the President and the Prime Minister. According to sources, the Cabinet Division in a notification directed high officers of federal ministries, Divisions and other government institutions to ensure their participation in official functions in the future. The notification, however, stated that in the case of illness, the officer would be exempted regarding participation in the meeting.
