RAWALPINDI - Additional IG and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Khan Durrani has said that unity among different sects is essential for religious harmony and peace in the city. Ulema should play their due role for the construction of a healthy society. Security would be beefed up during the holy month of Moharam-ul-Harram to avoid any untoward incident. He expressed these views while addressing the annual meeting of District Peace Committees members here at Hassan Raza Complex at Police Line here on Wednesday. Besides, SPs ,SDPOs, DPOs, SHOs of the district and Ulemas belonging to different sects including Allama Arif Hussain, Maulana Abdul Rehman, Maulana Bashir Ahmed Chisti, Maulana Mahmood-ul-Hassan, Syed Masood-ul-Hassan, Qari Abdul Basit also attended the meeting. RPO Nasir Durrani told the participants that all necessary arrangements have been completed to observe the holy month of Muharram with religious favor and soberness. "Protection of the citizen is the duty of police and everyone should keep an open eye on the suspicious persons particularly during the month of Muharram-ul-Harram" he said. He said that terrorists did not want peace in society and they wanted to create uncertainty and instability by spreading hatred material as well as using other nefarious practices. Addl IG urged Ulemas to wind up the Moharam's processions on time, keeping in view the prevailing situation of the country. On this occasion, the religious scholars were briefed about the code of conduct issued by RPO office for the maintenance of law and order and peace during Muharram. Nasir Durrani directed that the management of funeral procession and Majalis to use only one way for the entrance and exit of the mourners and everyone should be allowed to enter after thorough checking.
