Make head or tail of it?

The world-renowned Pakistani human rights activist, Asma Jehangir, is relentless in her crusade against the Supreme Court's verdict on the now-defunct NRO. Whether or not she is intentionally vilifying the court, here are a few questions for her; (a) Can an officially designated executioner also be vilified for carrying out a legal execution? (b) What if the executioner was a retired policeman who killed during his service or is a sifarshi? Does that make the execution immoral? (c) What if the court replaces the current executioner with an executioner of its choice? Would that make the execution illegal? (d) What if a superior court assigns a junior court to oversee the execution? Would that be considered judicial persecution, or judiciary overstepping its constitutional limits? In my humble opinion, Ms. Jehangir's crusade shouldn't be about whether we had needed to find a better executioner. Instead, it should be about whether the execution was legal and in the larger interest of the society or not. -ADNAN GILL, Los Angeles, December 23
