Nobody can dare topple govt: Awan

KARACHI - Former Law Minister and PPP leader Senator Babar Awan said on Saturday that nobody dare to topple the government unconstitutionally as provision of changing of a government is clearly enshrined in the Constitution.
He was talking to the media at Karachi Airport and then addressed a seminar organised by the provincial coordination department on the topic of ‘Shaheed Benazir Bhutto - Symbol of Unity of Pakistan’ in the city.
Pointing the finger at PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif, he said that he should read the writing on the wall. The PPP leader came down hard on Nawaz Sharif and said that he had predicted an end to the PML-N chief’s politics, which is proving correct today.
He added that Nawaz moved the court on the memo issue, while his brother and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had declared Prime Minister Gilani a traitor because of the premier’s statement of not accepting a state within the state.
The former law minister said that the PML-N did not want to let the senate elections take place on time and wanted removal of the government. Awan said that the time to come into power through backdoor channels had passed and if any one tries to come through illegal ways, the article 6 would be implemented.
He was surprised over Javed Hashmi’s decision to join Imran Khan’s party, saying that more PML-N leaders would leave it. He termed it a ‘GT Road party’. He said that no one could prevent holding of senate elections, of which process is scheduled to commence in February, 2012 and complete in the first week of March with the elections of its new chairman, deputy chairman and senators.
The PPP leader said that those who feared defeat in the Senate elections wanted to delay the polls but they would not succeed in their attempts to stop the PPP from becoming single largest party in the Upper House. Referring to the premier’s statement, he said, “There were no holy cows in the country. We will not allow anything to be hidden from the people.” The PPP leader made it clear that there was no danger to democracy as nation is awakening.
Babar said that all the institutions would hopefully work within their parameters and limits, which would help the government resolve the problems of the people. He paid a rich tribute to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, who gave her life for the cause of democracy in the country.
Awan said that those, who had violated the Constitution, also continued their efforts and because of this, out of 37 years the Constitution remained suspended for 21 years.
He further said that even today the creator of the 1973 Constitution while lying in his eternal abode at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh was awaiting justice. Later, Provincial Coordination Minister Makhdoom Jameel Zaman addressed the seminar and said that the Sindh province suffered injustices during the government of Nawaz Sharif. He said that despite threat to her life, the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto returned back and sacrificed her life.
Provincial Minister for Provincial Coordination of Balochistan Ms Ruqia Hashmi said though she was not associated with the PPP but saluted Benazir Bhutto who sacrificed her life for democracy.
