LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Wednesday suspended the notification of 16 per cent tax levied on small beauty parlors, with directions to the provincial government to submit reply within a month.
A number of petitions had been filed in the LHC challenging 16 per cent levy imposed on small beauty parlors opened in streets and towns. The petitioners stated that the beauty parlors were already going through the financial crunch but the provincial government had imposed 16 per cent levy on them which was unlawful. Small beauty parlors were reasonable sources of earning for women. They said the small businesses like these parlors at lease should be exempted from taxes.  Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah suspended the notification of 16 per cent levy imposed by the Punjab government and adjourned further proceedings until one month.
