PESHAWAR - Three Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers embraced martyrdom when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off during a search and clearance operation.
The officials confirmed the roadside bomb killed the three soldiers Sunday in Ghulam Khan area of North Waziristan near the border with Afghanistan.
The martyred FC personnel were identified as Naik Inayatullah, sepoy Mohsen Ali and sepoy Sifatullah.
The officials said the soldiers from the paramilitary Frontier Corps were searching for bombs to clear the area for the passage of a convoy, a senior Pakistani security official told AFP.
Local intelligence officials confirmed the incident and casualties.
According to security sources, the landmine planted in Ghulam Khan tehsil of the North Waziristan agency exploded when vehicle of the security personnel ran over it.
Soon after the blast, rescuers arrived at the site and shifted them to a nearby hospital for medico-legal formalities.
It was not possible to independently verify the account as the area is out of bounds for media.
A curfew has been imposed in the area as security forces search for the suspected militants who planted the bomb, the official said.
No militant group immediate claim responsibility for the incident.
On Saturday, three FC soldiers were martyred when armed men fired across the Pak-Afghan border in Mohmand Agency.
According to the ISPR, the terrorists fired from across the border on FC troops busy building new border post at Shunkrai in Mohmand Agency.
The soldiers who embraced martyrdom include Lance Naik Irshad Hussain, Havaldar Muneer Khan, and sepoy Haq Nawaz Khan.
"Pakistan is paying the price of Afghan forces' incapability and ungoverned spaces on Afghan side of the border," said the ISPR.
