KABUL (AFP) - The Taliban claimed responsibility for the drive-by shooting of a senior official in southern Afghanistan who was shot dead Wednesday by gunmen on a motorbike. Abdul Majeed Babai, the Kandahar provincial director for culture and information, had just left his home to go to his office when he was gunned down. He was assassinated by unknown gunmen riding past on a motorcycle, M Shah Farooqi, the deputy police chief of Kandahar province told AFP. We are investigating. A spokesman for the Taliban, which made its capital in Kandahar during its 1996-2001 rule of Afghanistan, claimed responsibility for Babais death.
