RAWALPINDI PML-N candidate Malik Shakil Awan on Wednesday won the by-polls of the NA-55 with a convincing margin of 21,358 votes against Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid, who was thought to be the hot favourite candidate in the elections. Till the filing of this report, the unofficial results compiled by the district election officials by collecting from 230 polling stations, PML-N candidate Malik Shakil Awan bagged 63,888 votes, AML President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed got 42,530 votes, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) Ijaz Khan Jazi obtained at least 5000 votes while Jammat-e-Islami (JI) candidate for by elections Dr Muhammad Kamal got 8000 votes. To celebrate comprehensives win of Shakil Awan against Sheikh Rashid in the by-elections of the NA-55, PML-N city chapter organised a carnival outside its candidates central election office at Liaquat Bagh which was addressed by PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Mian Nawaz Sharif, while addressing, thanked people of Rawalpindi for supporting his candidate in the by-polls. People of Rawalpindi, who always stood with his party in every election both in general and by-elections, have, once again, gave an honour to the PML-N. This decision will bring a change in the country, he added. He said that he wanted to bring a revolutionary change in the country in accordance with the vision of the Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said that his candidate Malik Shakil Awan was not contesting against Sh Rashid but battling against infidelity and disloyalty. By the grace of Allah Almighty, truth defeated infidelity. Nawaz stated. It was the victory of people as the PML-N candidate was contesting the election against a troika of PPP, PML-Q and 'Ali Baba (former President Pervez Musharraf) and his forty thieves who fled the country, he mentioned. PML-N Quaid said that his party would bring a revolution in terms of solidarity and propensity in the country. He said that he would pull the country out of present crises and provide basic facilities to the masses at their doorsteps. He said that the politics of status quo would also be ended. The future of Pakistan is bright, PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif said. Malik Shakil Awan also addressed the rally and thanked his supporters for elected him. He said that he would serve the masses with dedication and bring happiness at every home of the city. On the occasion, PML-N MNAs, MPAs, local leadership, women were also present. Earlier, as soon as the initial announcements of the results was made, hundreds of thousands of the PML-N delighted workers including local leadership and women started gathering outside the central election office of PML-N winning candidate, Malik Shakil Awan. It seemed an ocean of human was appeared on Liaquat Road. The PML-N supporters were holding stuffed tigers (the election symbol of Malik Shakil), party flags, and portraits of their beloved leaders including Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, CM Shehbaz Sharif, Leader of the Opposition Ch Nisar Ali Khan and other MNAs and MPAs of the party. A huge size statue of tiger was also installed on the roof a car while a caged lion was also brought which amused the charged supporters. MNA Tahira Aurangzeb, while talking to TheNation, said that PML-N Women Wing had played a pivotal role during Malik Shakil Awans election campaign and also his todays speculating win. They, with happy faces, were congratulating each other over this sparkling win against the PML-N arch foe Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, even dancing on the beats of music and drum beats and resorting aerial firing with sophisticated arms. While police were present there for security purpose with its officers including City Police Officer (CPO), Rao Muhammad Iqbal Khan, SSP Operations, Yasin Farooq, SP Rawal Town Zarahat Kiyani, SP Rana Shahid and SP Head Quarter. A man reportedly was captured with a 30-bore pistol and bullets by police. During the jubilation, two motorcycles while showing stunts on Benazir Bhutto Road (Road) were banged each other while three youngsters got severely injured. They were shifted to hospital for medical treatment. During the entire episode, traffic remained jammed on all the roads of the city which irked the commuters. A long queue of traffic could be witnessed on the BBR. The NA-55 seat fell vacant last year when PML-Ns MNA Haji Pervaiz had to resign after his exam scandal had surfaced. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has not fielded any candidate in the elections.
