LAHORE – SC CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that Punjab Prosecution Department is a hub of corruption and it has completely failed to improve its progress despite having budget of billions of rupees. “The criminals are kidnapping the daughters of poor masses while the state is sleeping,” the chief justice further observed on Friday while hearing an application seeking cancellation of bail of an accused Waris involved in the kidnap of a young girl Rabia, resident of Arifwala.
The Supreme Court was informed that Waris kidnapped Rabia about one year ago and later he succeeded to secure bail from the Lahore High Court despite the recovery of girl. Since the bail of accused, the heirs of Rabia wandering here and there to get justice but to no avail, the apex court was further informed. “It is the duty of state and prosecution department to move the courts for cancellation of bails of accused in such cases but it seems that the state is sleeping while police are busy to enjoy their lives. The billions of rupees have been spent on prosecution department but its progress is zero,” the CJP remarked.
The CJP directed the Inspector General of Police Haji Habibur Rehman to recover the girl and produce her before the apex court till March 1. The court also issued notice to the IGP on request to cancel the bail of accused Waris.
