LAHORE – A 45-year-old man, who was going to a dealer’s to purchase a passenger van to earn his livelihood, was killed during crossfire in Shadab Colony of Nishtar Colony between the police and three dacoits, police said on Friday.

Jan Muhammad, of Kasur, was sitting in a passenger van which was heading to Lahore when suddenly a bullet pierced through his body. He died in his seat, the investigators said.

“Three dacoits were fleeing in a rickshaw driving on the Ferozepur Road after looting a Shadab Colony home. We informed the police mobile. The cops reached here and started a chase to nab the dacoits. Somehow the dacoits got the information that the police were after them,” a senior police officer said, adding that the dacoits opened fire upon seeing the police party.

“The police returned in the same coin. But, accidentally, a police bullet hit the passenger. The injured passenger was taken to a hospital where the doctors pronounced him as dead,” the officer added. He said Rs350,000 in cash was recovered from his pocket. His family has been informed about the sad incident, he added.

One of the dacoits, identified as Zaffar, hailing from Sargodha, was arrested. A police officer claimed the outlaw has confessed to committing several dacoities in different areas of the Punjab.

“The gang has been operating in the City for the last several months,” he also added quoting the dacoits confessional remarks.

Later, the body of the passenger was shifted to the City morgue for autopsy. Police have lodged an FIR against the dacoits. Further investigations are underway.

CIA CATCHE THREE: The Iqbal Town CIA have claimed that they have arrested three members of a gang involved in murders, dacoities and other heinous crime. Cash, stolen mobile phones and other valuables were recovered from them, the cops added.

Following special directives by SP CIA Captain Liaqat Ali Malik directed CIA Iqbal Town head Inspector Haseeb Anjum, Inspector Waqar Ahmed and other police teams to arrest the members of Shauka dacoit gang. On which, the police teams raided several hideouts and arrested the dacoits identified as Shaukat Ali alias Shauka, Muhammad Nadeem Hussain and Muhammad Shafiq. Police have recovered Rs 292, 000, cell phones, automatic sophisticated firearms and other stolen valuables from their possession. Police investigators said although the arrested accused men have confessed to committing around nine crimes but actually they were involved in more than 39 crime bids. Further investigations are underway.

Mujahid Squad: The Mujahid Squad on Friday arrested 37 criminals involved in 32 crimes committed in different areas of the City during the last week.

A Squad spokesman said that five proclaimed offenders were also among the arrested dacoits.

Police have also recovered 14 pistols, rifles and other kind of firearms, huge bulk of liquor, motorbikes, cash and other snatched valuables from their possession. He said the SP Mujahid Squad has appreciated the police teams and directed them to further improve their performance.
