Protest against highway robberies


QUETTA - Transporters of Quetta on Friday blocked main Sariab Road to protest against the increasing incidents of robberies on Quetta-Karachi highway.
The protesters announced discontinuing of the bus service plying between Quetta and Karachi until government ensures protection to the transporters.
They chanted slogans against the administration for its failure in maintaining law and order.  They also torched tyres on the road which stranded hundreds of vehicles. Addressing the protesters, Quetta-Karachi Coach Association President Mir Hikmat Lehri condemned the increasing incidents of robberies on Quetta-Karachi highway.
 “Looting buses and depriving passengers of their valuables has become a routine matter,” he said, adding that several drivers, cleaners and passengers had been killed.
House hit with hand grenade:  Unidentified people hurled a hand grenade at a house in Panjgour on Friday.
According to reports, two armed motorcyclists tossed a grenade at the house of Mushtaq in Khudabadan area of Panjgour.
The grenade exploded with a big bang, triggering panic among the people in the area. However, no loss of life was reported.
The law enforcement agencies rushed to the site and cordoned off the area.
