Railway tracks at more than a dozen locations were destroyed in a series of blasts in various districts of Sindh after Friday-Saturday midnight. The destruction of tracks created halt in up and down country railway traffic causing massive disruption and prolonged delay of trains.

According to police, unknown miscreants had planted explosives with railway tracks in different districts of Sindh province which exploded with intervals destroying track.

Lengths of railway track were blown up in Bin Qasim, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, and Paddidan, Khairpur and Ghotki before and after dawn stopping the up and down traffic.

Two separate blasts destroyed main track, going through Long Khan Kairio village area of Nawabshah.

Later, a couple of similar blasts were also reported from Qasimabad area of Hyderabad, where 1-2 feet long rail tracks came off in the wake of explosions. Miscreants also blew up railway track near Latifabad area in Hyderabad.

The culprits, also targeted rails near Paddidan area using the same modus operandi i.e. two IEDs planted close by detonating one after another. Similar sabotage of tracks was also reported in Kotri, Ghotki and Bin Qasim.

All the up and down trains were stopped after the blasts. Zakaria and Fareed Express were stopped at Sadiqabad till the damaged portions of tracks were repaired.

Fortunately all passenger/cargo train remained safe in the blasts. PR sources said that major casualties could have been the outcome of these perpetrations.

Police condoned off the sites to launch an investigation as well as search for probable explosive devices or the culprits hiding nearby.
