ISLAMABAD - A petitioner Abdullah Tahir, who had challenged the appointment of Najam Sethi’s appointment as chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), withdrew his petition from Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday.
The petition was fixed before the court of Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi of the IHC but the counsel for the petitioner Tariq Asad Advocate withdrew the petition seeking court's permission to file the matter afresh. The petitioner Abdullah cited patron-in-chief/Prime Minister through Principal Secretary, Secretary Establishment Division, and chairman PCB as respondents and prayed to the court to set aside the appointment of Sethi as acting Chairman PCB.
He had contended that in order to clean up the politics in cricket, International Cricket Council (ICC) had taken a decision at its full council meeting in Hong Kong to amend the ICC Constitution to provide important principle for holding free elections and the independence of member boards.
Tahir had argued that Sethi has again been appointed as acting chairman of the PCB who had also worked as caretaker chief minister of Punjab province, and has been appointed interim head of the PCB by the same Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Petitioner adopted that Sethi does not fulfil the pre-requisites to be appointed as the chairman PCB. Sethi is absolutely unaware with the sports of cricket. It, therefore, respectfully prayed that the appointment of Najam Sethi be declared as illegal under provisions of the PCB constitution, petitioner had prayed.
Talking to The Nation, Advocate Asad said that after the federal government suspended PCB's constitution, many things had become ambiguous and he wanted to file fresh petition after examining the legal propositions.
