Inept leadership

Sir Winston Churchill was very much against granting independence to India and Pakistan. His argument against granting independence was, Power will go to rascals, rogues, freebooters. . . . Leaders will be of low caliber and men of straw. . . Theyll have sweet tongues and silly hearts. They will fight amongst themselves for power and the two countries will be lost in political squabbles. . . . A day would come when even air and water will be taxed. This is what he wrote 64 years ago. Our politicians and rulers have worked indeed very hard to prove Churchill right. TABISH BADKHUSHANI, Sialkot, January 24.
