ISLAMABAD - Justice Jawwad. S. Khawaja of Supreme Court has given seven-day time to the federal and Punjab governments to ensure recovery of a missing person named Khawar Mehmood and his production in the apex court on January 30.
The court gave these instructions while refusing to allow one-month time sought by the Attorney General to produce the missing person, during hearing of the missing person case here on Friday.
During the case hearing, Justice Jawwad. S. Khawaja got annoyed over the delaying of the missing person and remarked that lawlessness has taken deep roots in the country owing to deviation from the Constitution and the court will not allow the federation and the provinces to deviate from the Constitution.
The justice also said that protecting the freedom of citizens is an obligation of the state. “And if it is not done so, we will keep on saying to the provinces and federation to follow the Constitution.”
Attorney General (AG) for Pakistan Salman Butt, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Tariq Khokhar, Punjab law officer, petitioner Amna Masood Janjua and police officials appeared in the apex court in the missing person case.
The court remarked, whatever rights have been enshrined in the Constitution for the citizens, these be given to them.
Justice Jawwad said that everyone should work for the supremacy of the Constitution. There is no room for any doubt in it. Name of a police officer who performs his duty honestly stands engraved in our mind. Forces work in adverse situation. “We have deduced result in some cases that these people have gone to Afghanistan for Jehad on their own. We say repeatedly, we have to do our job.”
The apex court ordered the federal and Punjab governments to trace Khawar Mehmood and produce him in the court on January 30.
