ISLAMABAD - The 26th Convocation of Pakistan Navy Engineering College, a constituent college of National University of Science and Technology (NUST), was held at Bahria Auditorium, Karachi, today.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah graced the occasion as Chief Guest and awarded degrees to 237 graduates in various disciplines of engineering, says a press release issued here on Saturday.
The graduates included 74 Pakistan Navy officers, 10 Officers from Royal Saudi Naval Forces and 153 NUST civilian students who were awarded ‘Bachelor’s of Engineering’ (BE) degrees in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief of the Naval Staff said that Pakistan Navy being a technology-intensive force, has always pursued higher education to groom its officers in all departments and has converted PN Engineering College into a hub of higher education with the consistent support, encouragement and cooperation of NUST. The Naval Chief said that Pakistan Navy is committed to groom its officers and men at par with regional and international navies through participation in international exercises, training at foreign military institutions and participation in various international forums.
Admiral Zakaullah urged the students to harness full potential to serve motherland and prove themselves as responsible and resourceful citizen. “While entering into professional life, I can imagine that multifaceted challenges are waiting and this Institution expects you to uphold its reputation with excellence in professional knowledge and skills. You have to gain expertise and to develop research capacity to become a much needed engineering professional,” He said.
The Naval Chief reiterated the fact that Pakistan remains an active stakeholder in war on terror and in this volatile scenario; armed forces have been leading from the front to eliminate terrorism in all its kinds and manifestations.
He advised the students to uphold national ideology, be the custodians of ideological frontiers of the country and stick to basic principles of ‘Unity, Faith and Discipline’. Admiral Zakaullah appreciated the NUST-PNEC collaborative efforts and commitments for strengthening R&D culture in the country and flying of National Flag at international arena.
Earlier in his welcome address, Commandant Pakistan Navy Engineering College Commodore Zahid Iqbal highlighted that Pakistan Navy Engineering College has attained a high mantle of excellence and apart from teaching BE Degree courses in various disciplines the college is also conducting Ms and PhD Programs in a range of engineering fields. He apprised that currently 34 students are undergoing PhD program at the college.
The Commandant highlighted that our students representing Pakistan at national and international arenas, and especially winning the trophies in international sports competitions held in Philippines, Cyprus and UK accords prideful distinction to our Institution.
The Ceremony was also attended by Rector NUST, Commander Karachi, senior naval officers and parents and relatives of the graduating students.
