District Police Officer Shaker Hussain Dawar has called upon the print and electronic media to play its vital role to shun negativity, desist from sensationalism and to make concerted efforts for national solidarity.
The newly-appointed DPO has invited the mediamen of Hafizabad, Pindi Bhattian, Jalalpur Bhattian, Sukheke Mandi, Kaleke Mandi and other towns of the district and circulated 20-point Code of Ethics including purging the black sheep from the journalistic arena and elimination of yellow journalism. He advised them to desist from publishing news stories on hearsay and only ensure publication of authentic news.
He also advised them to refrain from publishing provocative, hate material and disputed sectarian material for ensuring interfaith harmony keeping in view the prevalent situation in the country. They should play their pivotal role for inter-faith harmony and national solidarity. He, however, warned anyone found publishing news creating sensation, discord and dissension among the public would be made accountable.
He also sought better coordination between the press and police for minimising crimes and criminals in the area by promoting positive thinking and responsible journalism.
He, however, said that he had established Night Hawks, Mohafiz Squad and Riverian belt squads for preventing day-to-day robbery, theft, dacoity, bike snatching incidents in the city area and cattle lifting in the river belt area. He said that these squads would ensure to deal with the criminals with iron hands and minimise the crime incidents. He also appointed public relation office for the convenience of the media.
