ISLAMABAD: Senior Hurriyat leader and the Chairman Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has strongly condemned India’s black measures, prohibitive orders and large scale arrests against Hurriyat leaders, workers and supporters on her Republic Day in Kashmir; when the people are observing it as a black day across the State.

 He said that the police crack-down on pro-freedom parties to stop peaceful demonstrations on 26 January, itself was proof of public anger against the occupation of Kashmir by India.

He said that like the so-called accession by the fugitive Maharaja of the State in October 1947, the constitution of India was thrust on the State on 26 January 1950.

 Although India, he reminded, had herself gone to UN to seek the opinion of the World Body and the later had urged the parties to hold referendum on the future status of J&K under the auspices of the United Nations. Therefore, India had no mandate to bring the State under the umbrella of its newly adopted constitution.

 Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said that India followed undemocratic and repressive ways and means since the very day of annexation of the State, causing political uncertainty, regional tension and instability and loss of life due to the Indo-Pak war and border skirmishes along the LoC, during the last 68 years. 

 Pointing out India’s accesses on the people, he said the military occupation was responsible for martyring millions of the Muslims across Jammu and Kashmir during the past 68 years.

 “The killings by Indian troops in Kashmir continue to increase and there is no sign that India is willing to accept any peaceful negotiated settlement of the dispute with Pakistan and the Kashmiris,” he remarked.

 Muhammad Farooq Rehmani warned that India would never succeed in curbing the movement of freedom as Kashmir was not any internal issue of India, nor a bilateral dispute; it was an international dispute awaiting plebiscite under UNCIP resolutions.

 He urged on the UN to implement the relevant resolutions on Kashmir and ask India and Pakistan to shoulder their respective obligations under the UN charter, failing which the two nuclear states could endanger peace and stability of the whole region.
