According to a Texas congressman, the American commandos are poised to stage 'hot pursuit' raids into Pakistan's tribal areas to stem the mounting Taliban attacks against US troops in Afghanistan and disrupt the resurgent Al-Qaeda operatives. The congressmen from Texas should think twice before issuing such statements, which can have dire implications for US-Pak relations. Already, Pakistan is fighting its own war against terror within its borders. Such statements do not make matters easier for us. The US has constantly been violating Pakistani air space. To make matters worse NATO troops in Afghanistan have also been saying that attacks from Pakistani borders are increasing. The US should concentrate on its own front in Afghanistan and let the Pakistani troops do their job of curbing the militants operating in our area. Such statements and actions by the US will not be tolerated. We are not a weak state to tolerate such transgressions. The US has its hands full as it is and it should not rile us. It should let the Pakistani forces do their job and not issue statements of such a provocative nature. -AMIN SULEIMAN, Rawalpindi, via e-mail, July 10.
