Provincial Education Minister of NWFP, Sardar Hussain, has said that the schools in Swat, Lower and Upper Dir and other areas in Malakand division will become functional from the first of August. While talking to BBC radio, Hussain said that the government has made alternate arrangements for students enrolled at the schools damaged or destroyed by insurgency in the area. He said that arrangements have been made to set up Shamyana schools for children so that the process of their education continues and that the damaged schools will be reconstructed on an emergency basis. The Minister said that Rs8 billion would be spent on reconstruction of damaged schools in Swat. All government and private schools in Swat had been closed days before the launch of the military operation in Swat and Malakand.
